BIRD and GIRL is a dark comedy, action/horror graphic novel series that chronicles the experiences of an imaginative young girl enmeshed in a climate of social confusion that typifies adolescence. On the surface, GIRL’s life appears ordinary: she attends middle school, resides comfortably in a middle-class setting with supportive parents, and is attuned to all pursuits and desires befitting a thirteen year old. When GIRL is seven, her twin brother, BOY, tragically dies. BIRD and GIRL is thus a story of GIRL’s post-traumatic reaction to her brother’s death amidst the trials of puberty and socialization. Consequently, GIRL’s psychological reaction to these experiences taps a reservoir of inherent energy enabling her to wield extraordinary psychic power. Accompanying GIRL on her adventures through nightmarish, fantastical realms is staunch companion BIRD – a psychological construct through which GIRL exercises violent impulses to cope with her sense of guilt and denial over BOY’s death.
